Gifts for the Newlyweds

It's tricky trying to find that perfect gift for the couple that already has a household together. Whether you're looking for an engagement present or something for their wedding - different ideas are hard to come by. So, we thought it would be a great idea to compile a board full of pins with fun, memorable newlywed gifts!

A few months back, our Gifts for The Newlyweds board was featured as part of Pinterest's Holiday Gift special feature!! We were so excited! Whether you're a friend of the happy couple, or a couple registering for their wedding, we definitely think you should take a look!

Here are some of our favorite ideas from the board!

Preserving More Than Just Your Cake Top

Everyone's heard about the tradition for newlyweds to save the top of their wedding cake and eat it together on their first anniversary. Said to bring good fortune to their marriage, this custom began in the early 19th century when wedding cakes were typically brandy soaked fruit desserts that were easily saved and preserved for later.

Today's brides have a harder time keeping their fabulously decorated and flavorful cakes fresh for an entire year. Plus, for lots of couples, the thought of eating a year old cake isn't that appealing.

I saw this post on the Offbeat Bride and instantly thought - genius! Aberrant Ornaments has come up with the perfect solution - miniaturized replicas of your wedding cake!

Aberant Ornaments
After your wedding you send them a picture of your cake and they'll sculpt this mini version for you to save forever - no freezer wrap required!

They all come with tiny hooks to use as an ornament or can all stand on their own on a shelf - perhaps by your wedding photo?

The sculptures are as unique your wedding and love story and will be an adorable reminder of that special day!

I feel like they'd make a great anniversary gift for a special couple down the road as well.

Would you make this your new wedding cake tradition?

Stock the Bar Party!

One of my fantastic couples recently told me about their plans for their upcoming engagement party and I couldn't resist telling you all about it as well - they're having a "Stock the Bar" party!

Basically, instead of typical engagement gifts, your guests bring items for your wedding bar - bottles of wine, beer, liquor, etc. Then, you save everything for your big day!

Here's our favorite Stock the Bar Party invitation we found:

Super cute, right? There's tons of options out there too.

I love this idea! You save some money on liquor costs for your cocktail hour and reception and your guests are guaranteed to find their favorites at your bar. You could even have a cute sign at the bar with an extra special thank you for your guests. Win-win for sure!

It wouldn't have to be just for engagement parties either. The same theme would work out great for bridal showers, and bachelor/bachelorette parties as well.

What do you think? Would you have a Stock the Party?

Technology and Weddings

Since most of us are glued to our cell phones and flock to any new technology out there, we decided to talk about some of the most unique and fun ways we found to incorporate technology into your wedding. Not only can they add to your guests' overall experience, but they can give you and your hubby incredible memories of this special day.

Wedit sends the wedding couple 5 HD cameras in the mail 3 days before the wedding weekend. The couple passes them out to wedding guests to record all the fun festivities, and the couple returns the cameras to Wedit to edit. Wedit then edits the footage into a video! What a fun way for guests to share their unique memories and perspectives of your wedding!

Wedding Snap is another cool way to capture all your guests different experiences. It's a great way for couples to get a scrapbook of memories and engage guests in a fun activity. All your guests have to do is download this app, and you'll automatically get all the photos they take at your wedding collected in an online album from the app! Guests can even upload any digital images they took with their cameras after the event.

Would you be interested in using these fun ideas at your wedding? What are some other apps or ways you've seen technology incorporated into a wedding reception?

A Wedding Magazine All About You!

One of the main reasons that I LOVE what I do so much is I absolutely LOVE hearing the individual stories that brought our couples together and helping them incorporate those amazing details into their wedding day.

When I came across this blog post on Ruffled about Personalized Wedding Magazines, I had to share it with you!

Twenty Pages is a company who believes each story is unique and meant to be told. They'll take your story, and all the details of your big day - fun and practical,  and turn it into a magazine for your guests!

You provide the content and pictures and they take care of all the rest - layouts, design, photo retouching and customization. They'll put it all together for you and then you'll proof the magazine before it goes to print.

It's all done in professional print quality and it's all about you! For an additional charge, you can even add more fun elements like customized games and puzzles or friends and family testimonials.

I'm loving this idea! What do you think?

Honeymoon Registry

We just came across this fantastic idea, and cool new website, on 100 Layer Cake - wanderable.com! It's a really neat idea... If you and your betrothed don't have a need to sign up for sheets, dishes, and mixers, you can choose to have your guests pledge toward your honeymoon!

Here's how it works. First, you customize your free honeymoon page with cute pictures and all the wedding details - with no annoying ads!

Wanderable.com
Then, list the items of your honeymoon that your guests can purchase for you! Like this:

Wanderable.com

How awesome (and stress-relieving), would it be to get your honeymoon taken care of?! Then you could really relax :)

And if you aren't sure where your wanderings should take you, they have a whole community of other honeymooning couples with great ideas to share!

Where are you planning to go wandering on your honeymoon?
